JAMES RAY (JIM) PROBASCO

1948 -

 

Jim Probasco is a public school music administrator and freelance writer living in Kettering, Ohio. He is also Director of the Five Rivers Metro Band, a summer honors band for high school age musicians in the Miami Valley (Ohio) area, and part time director of the Kettering Civic Band, an adult community band in Kettering, Ohio.

Jim has authored "A Parent's Guide to Band & Orchestra," and "A Parent's Guide to Teaching Music," two books designed to help parents support their child's participation in music.He is also a co-author of "Now Go Home and Practice," a school band method published by Heritage Music Press and of "Technisises for Band" a new school band technique book, also published by Heritage Music Press. And he is a regular contributor to VocalEase, a magazine for choral teachers.

He was head writer for "Keep America Singing" and "Voices in Harmony," two PBS television specials starring Mitch Miller, broadcast nationwide in August of 1994 and November of 1996. Jim is currently working on another PBS documentary entitled "Can't Stop Singing," about barbershop music, which will premier in August 1999.

Jim is also a staff comedy writer for the Gary Burbank Show, nationally syndicated comedy show originating on 700 WLW radio in Cincinnati (Ohio).
